About

My name is Will and this is my blog about writing and life. I’m an undergrad student at the University of Saskatchewan. If you don’t know where that is, it’s in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. (I had someone ask me once if Saskatchewan was the rectangle in the middle of Canada. At that point, I just laughed at them (shameful, I know) – so, to finally answer that question – if you were a waiter at Baba Gump’s Shrimp in Time Square, NY and you ever asked a group of young adults this question – the answer is yes. Saskatchewan is the rectangle in the middle of Canada. Great, I live in a fricken box).
I’ve been writing since I was very young (before I can remember) and I’m still pounding out a specific style. I write a lot of science fiction and fantasy. I do, though, like to write some ‘real life’ type of fiction, including some stuff loosely based on different situations I’ve had to face in my life. I’ve dabbled in poetry…though I don’t think I’m any good at that, as well as screenplays (just for fun). There is one thing I do every year which I think every writer should be apart of. Every November I take part in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). Basically, it’s a website dedicated to writing. Anyone can join and the point is to try and write a 50,000 word novel in the 30 day time frame. Apart from this, it is an opportunity to connect with a huge, online community of writers. There are general forums anyone in the world can write in, and there are regional, localized forums specific to your city or region so that you can meet other people in your community who love the same thing. So please check it out: the link is on the side of my blog. I’ve done it the last 6 years, this will be my seventh. I’ve gotten the 50,000 word goal every time (please, hold your applause). It’s a lot of fun and I recommend it to everyone. There is no pressure to write lots, just what you can; any # of words is to be commended because writing is a wonderful thing. Everyone is welcome and it’s tons of fun! Okay, what else? I take a Filipino martial art called Sikaran. I’ve been in the class for 8 years now and I have my black belt. Keeps me active and good looking. I really enjoy reading…I have a small library! I collect comic books (Superman is my favourite). I also collect coins (Canadian and American mostly). Just some fun things I like to do with my time and money – money that I earn working in the kitchen at a retreat house! This is me in a nutshell.

I started this blog because I feel like I’ve got something to share that hopefully others will care enough to read. I plan on having daily posts (portraying a piece of my writing or poetry, or just a story from my life, and every once in a while I’ll throw in a photo that I find inspiring – sometimes it’ll be pictures I took). Apart from these daily posts, I plan to share with you some novels I’ve written, in the hopes you’ll enjoy them as much as I do. 😉

Perspective is my first novel and a preview can be found here: http://www.allmeanssomething.wordpress.com/perspective/ Perspective is currently available for sale on amazon.com, here: http://www.amazon.com/Perspective-ebook/dp/B006YU1806

If you’re at all curious about why my blog is named What If It All Means Something, I wrote all about it in this post.

This is my first experience in blogging and I hope it goes well. I mean, I know it will go well for me, I just hope it goes well for everyone else too.

Feel free to contact me or ask me any questions at: allmeanssomething@gmail.com

  5. Noticed the extended editions of The Lord of the Rings. I have those, too, and I watch them every summer. Have you read all the books on the shelf behind you in that picture?

    • No I definitely have not. There’s over 850. I’ve all my Star Wars, which I have 120 of, about half of my Star Trek (there’s over 350 of those) and after that I’ve read majority of what’s on there. I read a LOT haha

    • Firstly, thank you so much! I really appreciate this. You put a smile on my face just now. 🙂 I have actually received this award twice already in the few short months of blogging – this is now my third – so to avoid the risk of being redundant I won’t create a post about it this time. However, this does not devalue your nomination or my gratitude to you for choosing me. It really does mean a lot. Thank you so much!

Thanks for reading my blog and reblogging a recent post. Doing so made me go back here in your site. It seems you are also a wide reader like me. Hmm we’ll get along just fine. I know someone studying in your university. I admit I didn’t know where in the world that place was, but thanks for the explanation.

Hoping to read more of your stuff here.

    • Haha! Thanks. Yeah most people just give you a funny look when you tell them the name: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan…what? haha I love your blog and am looking forward to reading more of your stuff, as well! I’m glad you’re here!

    • Thanks so much! I’m glad you’re enjoying my blog!
I, too, collect Marvel and DC. I don’t discriminate. I love Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Spider-Man and Iron Man.

  20. LoveandFlats

    Great blog.

Do you know what you’ll be writing about next month?

I love superheroes as well. My favorite is Wonder Woman. I love females that can kick butt.

    • Hey! Thanks. I have a great blog. Cool. 😛
Wonder Woman is my second favourite. I’m not saying that to suck up. She does kick butt. 😀
I’m still undecided. Too many ideas, not even patience. You know. haha
I take it you do NaNo, then, as well?

      • LoveandFlats

I’ve always wanted to try but lacked the motivation to follow through.

That makes me so happy that you like WW as well! She is not at the top of most peoples lists. < 3

I'm sure whatever you decide to write about will be awesome.

        • Haha you should try it. There’s nothing to lose. And yeah, she really isn’t. But I love her because she is like a female version of Superman and he’s my favourite. She’s just as strong as him, but is so much more badass in so many ways. There’s a new comic series that’s been publishing for a few months, “Superman / Wonder Woman”. It’s sooooo good haha
Pleasure to meet you. I hope you stay awhile. 🙂

        • LoveandFlats

          Same to you!!

          Thanks for the information.

Thanks for the follow! I, too, occupy a little known province in Canada called New Brunswick. It has been described as the armpit of the nation by many. I happen to like it here.

I commend your NaNoWriMo efforts. I’ve only heard of it in the past few days and wish I’d had more warning and felt prepared to attempt it for myself. Maybe I’ll tag along all incognito and unnofficial like… lurking and pounding the keyboard trying to keep up. Just to see if I can

    • Hey, thanks. I stumbled across your blog because of your book review. You’ve got a good voice for them.
Yeah, incognito is good. I won’t tell anyone if you don’t.
haha New Brunswick, eh? Sweet. 🙂 Most people IN Canada don’t even know where that is. 😛
I’ve never been that far east yet. Made it to Quebec. Would love to get out farther. 🙂
Thank you for the comment. 🙂

      • orawrites

Thanks! I struggled kind of a long time on whether or not to save that post for revision later or actually post it… Hopefully I have a good voice for actual creative writing endeavours too, which are coming up (i fully expect a thorough read through of any stories i post and perhaps even commentary) (since you’re a fellow canadian, of course) (gotta represent)

I thought it was just us who thought no one had heard of us! People think eastern canada and tend to stop moving east when they hit quebec. It’s a shame, this area is beautiful! We have national parks, and beaches, and cliffs, and red soil, and, like, waterfalls and stuff…

There’s no place like it. Especially this time of year. Sweater weather and crunchy leaves floating on a salty breeze. glorious. home.
